We have been waiting to see a blanket of white over the brown grass, so now what?! Madison offers fantastic opportunities to get you out of the house and embracing the winter season!

 

Sledding

Sledding can be as easy as heading out your front door or finding a nearby snowy hill but if you want a bit more of an experience check out these spots:

Aldo Leopold Park, Arbor Hills Park, Berkley Park, Elver Park, Garner Park, Hiestand Park, Olbrich Park, Orlando Bell Park, Sycamore Park and Warner Park

 

Frozen Assets

This free and family-friendly event is loaded with fun activities at The Edgewater during February 1st-3rd. Check out open skate on The Edgewater Plaza, kites on Mendota, fat bike sled pull for kids, pond hockey, snowshoeing, curling, ice golf and so much more! Cross Country Skiing

There are more than 22 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails in 7 Madison parks. Rentals are available at Elver Park, Odana Hills and Yahara Hills. Don’t forget your ski permit and check out all of these options: Cherokee Marsh, Door Creek Park, Elver Park, Odana Hills Golf Course, Owen Conservation Park, Turville Point Conservation Park, Yahara Hills Golf Course

 

Ice Skating

There are a dozen outdoor ice rinks in Madison parks throughout the city where you can skate for free if you have your own skates. Or if you need rentals check out Elver, Tenney and Vilas parks!

Bolz Conservatory at Olbrich Botanical Gardens

When the temperatures move to sub-zero we need to consider some alternatives! Try warming up among the lush, humid greenery of the indoor tropical garden at Olbrich! Hours are 10am-4pm.
